Total IIT Seats In 2022
The total number of IIT seats in India in 2022 was 16,598, including 1,567 extra seats for female applicants. This number slightly increased from last year’s figures.
Total Female Seats in IITs
1,567 total sets in IITs were allotted for female candidates in the year 2022, among 16,598 total seats. Female seats in IITs also increased last year with a programme to promote gender diversity in esteemed technology institutes. There were 1,534 female seats in the year 2021.
The Government of India’s Ministry of Education has started a number of programmes to boost the number of women enrolled in IITs.To encourage female students to be admitted to IITs, many IITs (including IIT Bombay) hold Open House outreach events, according to a representative of JoSAA.
IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, two of the few well-known IITs from the earlier IITs, each have 1,360 seats available this year. There are 1,133, 1,869, and 1,353 seats available at IIT Madras, Kharagpur, and Roorkee, respectively. The extra seats provided for female candidates are included in all of these positions.
