Like every year, many candidates who are thinking of taking part in JEE Main 2025 have many queries regarding the eligibility criteria. The 75% criteria in the 12th class is one of the most common queries. Candidates are asking; is the 12th percent required for JEE 2025? However, the official Eligibility Criteria Regarding JEE Main 2023, Still needs to be announced. So we are not pretty sure if there is any change in the eligibility criteria. 75% Criteria for JEE Main Explained

Regardless of low grade points or Percentage in class 12th, candidates can participate in JEE Main. Candidates should be aware that appearing in the exam can be done without meeting the 75% criteria in the 12th class. 

The 75% requirement for eligibility only applies at the time of admission to the IIT and NIT institutes. However, the Government of India waived this requirement for the academic years 2020, 2021, and 2022 in light of the COVID-19 circumstances. 

Is the 12th Percentage Required For JEE Mains 2025?

12th class percentage is not required for JEE Mains 2025! Yes, because as we discussed, there are no criteria of the 12th Percentage to appear in the JEE Main (exam only). But, when it comes to taking admission to NIT or IIT colleges after clearing JEE Main or JEE Advanced, the 12th Percentage will probably be required for JEE Mains 2025. 

In the absence of official notification, there is no surety about it. However, according to the JEE Main 2022 updated criteria, aspirants will not be asked for 75% or the top 20 percentile in the 12th class. However, there was a minimum criterion of 50% in the 12th class for students who wanted to take admission in Architecture and Planning courses. 

All this was due to the pandemic situation, but now, when everything is back to normal, hopes are being raised that CBAB will reinstate this 75% criteria to take admission in NIT, IIT, IIIT, etc. 

Highlights of Other Eligibility Criteria of JEE Main 2025

Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens. Candidates from other countries, as well as NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs, may also apply.

Age Criteria: There is no age restriction for candidates to take the JEE Main 2025 exam.

Total Attempts: For JEE Main, students are only allowed to take the test three times in a row. Soon after the Class 12 board exam, the first attempt is made, and subsequent attempts are made year after year. A candidate can take the exam six times in total because it will be administered twice a year.

Qualification: Below is the list of qualifying exams for JEE Mains:

  1. The final exam for the 10+2 system is administered by any recognized Central or State Board, such as the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations in New Delhi or the Central Board of Secondary Education in New Delhi, among others.
  2. A recognized Board or University will administer an intermediate or two-year Pre-University exam.
  3. the National Defense Academy’s Joint Services Wing’s two-year course’s final examination
  4. The National Institute of Open Schooling administers Senior Secondary School Examinations in a minimum of five subjects.
  5. The Association of Indian Universities recognizes any public school, board, or university examination as being equivalent to the 10+2 system in India or any other country (AIU).
  6. Examination for the Higher Secondary Certificate in a Trade.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs

The institute, not the NTA, determines the requirements for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. JEE The primary eligibility requirements established by NTA are only for exam participation. Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), the counselling organization that admits students to these institutes, provides information regarding the eligibility requirements for admission to the institution. Final Verdict

As we mentioned earlier, as always, you don’t need to meet any percentage criteria to appear in JEE Main 2025, only for the exam. But, when it comes to taking admission in NITs, IITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, you must have to meet the 75% or top 20 percentile in the 12th board class!

Nevertheless, it is a matter of uncertainty as there is no official announcement regarding the updated eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2025. However, there is a high probability that the 75% criteria in the 12th class for NITs, IITs, IIITs, and GFTIs will be resumed in session 2025.
