NMC Banned Medical Colleges For MBBS 2023: NMC Latest News

NMC banned medical colleges

Since the NEET 2023 Counseling is going so well, the current focus of the NMC is geared toward medical colleges all over India. We already know that the NMC focuses on the minimum eligibility criteria for every medical college in order to provide the joiners with the best college life. So coming this year, the latest news passing around the internet is that the NMC banned medical colleges from taking admission to MBBS. Is it true? Yes, it is! Come, let’s dive into more details.

According to an exclusive talk with one of the major media, the council declared that the total number of Medical colleges banned by NMC in India is 9 in 2023. The main reason behind this decision is that medical colleges might be subject to cancellation or punitive actions if they fail to meet the required standards of infrastructure, faculty, facilities, curriculum, or other necessary parameters set by the regulatory body.

This could be due to issues such as lack of proper infrastructure, inadequate faculty, non-compliance with regulations, and other factors that could compromise the quality of medical education and patient care.

9 Medical Colleges Banned By NMC In India

The NMC clearly confirmed that there are a total of 9 medical colleges that will not be eligible for this year’s admission process. This list includes two colleges from Tamil Nadu, Two from Karnataka, and one each from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Punjab.

The NMC stated that these Nine colleges are government-approved colleges with many years of existence but proved they lack many compulsory specialities of medical colleges W.R.T the NMC policies. After all, a total of 1500 medical seats will be unavailable for the 2023-24 batch due to this ban. These nine colleges were recently exposed in the scanner of the National Medical Council.

Top Reasons Why NMC Banned Medical Colleges in 2023

During a recent interview, the NMC stated that medical colleges undergo periodic inspections. This issue came to prominence earlier this year when the Commission (NMC) de-recognized or issued notices to 150 colleges. However, the top reasons behind this sudden decision to completely ban the colleges are inadequate patient and staff numbers and non-adoption of the new camera and biometric attendance-based system.

The National Medical Commission also expressed that most of the colleges lack the necessary infrastructure even though they have been recognised yet again after appeals to the NMC or the health ministry.

Let’s hear from the NMC representative in his recent interview with Indian Express, “This is because the colleges, especially the well-established or government ones, corrected minor deficiencies. For example, some colleges have stopped marking attendance on the biometric system since COVID-19. Some colleges did not have enough faculty members. If the deficiency is not more than 10 percent, departments can admit students for the year while they fill up positions.

The main goal of the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) scanner program is to set up a fresh regime of ongoing oversight for medical colleges. This approach involves the utilisation of hospital cameras, an Aadhaar-based biometric attendance system, and the integration of the hospital’s health system management data to facilitate continuous monitoring.

The NMC’s representative also expressed that there are many major deficiencies still-to-be -found at some colleges. He also expressed his disappointment “If a medical college hospital has a shortage of patients and faculty members to the extent that cannot be immediately corrected, they will not be allowed to take in students for the current batch.”

Final Words

In conclusion, this is to say that this ban will not affect the past enrolled students in those 9 medical colleges banned by NMC. However, these colleges must regain the NMC’s trust by rectifying their deficiencies before the fourth and concluding round of counselling on September 21 will still not have permission to admit students for the current batch.
