UNICEF announced organizing a global education mascot to provide quality education to children in low and middle-income countries on 13 September 2022. To ensure every child’s right to quality education, Uni will serve as an ambassador for the global education mascot.
Aim of global education mascot by UNICEF
Every child has the right to get a quality education. According to a UNICEF report, about 70 per cent of children in low and middle-income countries cannot get a quality education. These children cannot read or understand a written story. For this purpose, Uni will serve as a symbol of hope for children worldwide. The aim is to highlight the low standards of education across the globe and to inspire imminent transformation in the education system.
Uni will act as a spokesperson for education and stand for every child’s constitutional Right to an excellent education. The United Nations Transforming Education Summit will also bring hope and inspiration necessary for education reforms that are required.
Reforms by UNICEF
Last year, UNICEF gave iconic blue backpacks to 1.3 million children to inspire schoolchildren. UNICEF further hopes that this mascot will result in bringing educational reforms worldwide. This step ensured the creation of a real-life version of the education mascot. UNICEF designed Uni in-house.
“Uni embodies our aspiration that every child has the right to go to school and learn,” said Paloma Escudero, UNICEF Global Director of Communication and Advocacy. “Every child has a right not only to be in school but to learn in school, acquiring the basic skills that are the foundation for higher learning and higher income levels someday.”
The education mascot announced by UNICEF will serve to embody the importance of quality education and draw attention to the global learning crisis.
